The meeting was brought to order and all present were duly welcomed. A draft agenda was accepted.

President’s review of the previous year.

Ch-E Vilain XIIII referred to the fact that only 2 Opens had been held during 2002, the Golf Open having been cancelled. Belgium played a series of representational international matches against teams selected to be close in playing standard to our own, and won them all. Overall, the Chateau du Lac / Martins’ Hotels had benefited from between 50-60 room nights due to croquet during the year.

In discussion of these issues, the fact that the Indoor Open lost money aroused debate on the purpose of the Federation, whether it was a pure façade or if money was important to the Federation’s objectives. It was agreed that the Indoor Open should not aim to be run at a loss.

It was also agreed that a special event should be organised if desired by the Chateau for its staff (especially their sales people), partly to brief them on croquet and partly to reinforce the continuing goodwill of John Martin himself.

Treasurer’s report

B Eeman reported that the Federation had a surplus of some 500 euro. The August Open had made  a surplus that was wiped out by the Indoor Open. In the absence of any pecuniary sponsorship (in part linked to the absence of a Golf Open this year and of Watson Wyatt’s support of that) and given the absence of any income from team building events, the only substantial income was from the per capita levy on members of the BCCG.

Election of Officers

There being no resignations nor additional candidates, and all the existing officers being willing to continue in office, no elections were held.

Future Activities

The draft list of CFB fixtures for 2003 that had been previously circulated was approved, subject to a few items:

-          the level Golf event planned for June as a Federation event was to be a joint Club and Federation event, so as to leave open the option of awarding the John Martin Cup.

-          an international match with visitors from southern Spain was still possible, on the Friday and Monday surrounding the August Open

-          the Coupe des Ardennes (with Luxembourg) was still to be arranged

It was noted that a possible return match against Wales might still be arranged in 2003 or, if not, Wales was sanguine about it being deferred.

Any Other Business

There being no further business, the Meeting was closed at 19.10.
